Default A/C question

Hey guys I got a question on ac on my 66. The system was all cleaned out, filled with the right amount of oil. I started putting freeze 12 in, and now I need to take it out and start all over again. My question is do I need to replace any oil that came out with the freon. I only put in 1 1/2 cans. Thanks for any help.

As you know, Freon is a gas, oil is not. I feel you should be OK not adding any more oil. Bill

Oil level (amount) is probably fine. You generally do not add more oil if you depressure a system and then add refrigerant. If you changeout components (drier, condenser, etc) then you add some additional oil to compensate.

Freeze 12 is mostly 134a refrigerant. Using mineral oil is not the best with Freeze 12, but it should work. Many people report success. What oil type are you using?? Mineral, ester, or PAG??

Why not stay with R12?? Cost has come down and is around $20/pound on e-bay ($80/charge).

I don't think you will need to add any oil if you haven't drained any from the system. An ounce or two spilled won't matter.

On my last few cars I have used Enviro-Safe, a non chloroflourocarbon refrigerant. This included an Italian car with a Frigidare system that never really cooled the car. Switching to the ES which is 30% more efficient and non-toxic made the the system actually cool the car. I will charge my stock 64 and 66 with the ES. Note the ES is non corrosive and not a suspected carcinogen. The incidence of cancer in auto repair technicians is very high. Also Freons are a DuPont monopoly in the US and they have bought off the congress to limit competition from other better products. If you doubt any of this just do an online search.
