I gallon bucket w/screen of carb cleaner and a rebuild kit from your FLAPS (friendly local auto parts store) and you can do just about as good a job as anyone else.

(directions and adjustment specs are in the carb kit)

OEM jets are good 99% of the time.

I've rebuilt dozens of carbs over the years, but I sent my AFB for RESTORATION to Daytona Parts Co in Smyrna Beach FLa, (386)427-7108, they did excellent job! Joe.

I had Bob Kunz rebuild my 62 AFB. An unbelieveable job. He came recommended by everyone I talked to. He had some connection to the old Carter business I just can't recall what it was. I will post his contact info later if you want it.

Personally, I like Custom Rebuilt Carbs, here in NJ. They fully clean them, rebuild them and correctly refinish the outside. Phil has been doing them for years and stands behind his work. They're located in Middlesex, NJ. His contact info is:

If you were rebuilding a WCFB carb Bob would have been my recommendation too. Didn't think about the fact he probably does AFBs as well. His work is second-to-none.

the afb seemed to work fine and did log about 500 plus miles last summer , used it on a cast intake serial # 3844459, casting date L-1-7 I do not know the application for these #s but is what came with car ,air cleaner base fits right , now i am using eldebrock performer alum intake and 650 edlebrock carb , think troubles of gas fumes when car is shut off are due to that carb being rejetted by old owner of car and possible floats set wrong!nice spare but has to go !
