"Original Engine" Questions

I don't know why it can't be accepted that the original engines are still in some of these cars. I haven't had Al Grenning do an evaluation on my engine but I have to say it is the original that came with the car. The car was parked in 1972 and wasn't driven until I got it in 1979. I pulled the engine and checked at that point. The numbers on the pad matched the serial number of the car. Back in that era no one was even worried about whether or not the engine was original. So I doubt in the six years it was driven prior to my ownership that someone found a replacement block with the correct date code and casting number and had it decked and stamped so they could sell me the lovely piece that is pictured in my avatar.

Thanks for all the responses. I sincerely appreciate the individual and collective wisdom of the forum members.
I would have thought there were a heck of a lot fewer "correct" parts available today to create a "numbers matching" engine.
Thanks Again!

My engine is original, and I have saved the old carb, water pump, and fuel pump that "appear" to be the originals. Of course it is a 250 hp and never modified, so it is not exactly overstressed.
