It was a typo on his part, later on in the info part, he says 25,000. Hey, maybe for somebody. Has potential. Bill

Default Seller is a very nice honest guy

Iworked this car hard all day Friday. Owner was very honest and really did not know what he had, but we figured it out. HERE IS THE STORY:

1966 Corvette convertible, 427/425hp, 4 speed, ? ratio posi differential, two tops. Shows 54635 miles. Right door panel arm base bad, but all in all, the interior is decent original and complete. Car was owned by the same man Doug M. from Redding, California, now deceased. Doug owned the car from 1967 until 2007, then his two sons inherited it, and finally it was sold to current owner Gary W. in July 2008.
Sometime early in its life the car was stolen and the big block engine was stripped. Upon recovery, California DMV assigned a state vin # CA388363 to the door jamb and removed the original vin tag. The trim tag is still in place and is as follows and shows:
G31 (march 31, 1966) body build around vin 194676S18091, the last car built in March 66.
66 467 S5673 BODY
Std black vinyl 988AA Milano Maroon
Cal assigned number CA 388363. The dates of the trim tag make the vin somewhere between 17964 to 18091 the last day of March 66 production.
Car was in an accident with a deer and has a new reproduction front end that appears to be made by IMAGE Glass, Sandy Oregon. They make individual panels and glue them together as the factory did, so it is now a one piece unit that needs to be installed.

The engine is a 350 small block made into a 383. Shows Lakewood scatter shield. Major body work and complete new wire harness and parts needed to make whole along with a complete paint job.
Rear spring has 7 leaves, so probably started lifev as a F-40. The C-lock pin in the diff is broken (you can see the yoke pulling out) Has rear sway bar and 427 rear yoke connectors, 80 lb oil gauge, 6500 RPM tach., so car was a 427/425hp when new.
Car has vintage Torque Thrust 15x6 American Mag wheels.

I have owners name and phone if you PM me with your regular email address I will send to you.

For 25k? He's out of his mind, but not as much as anyone who pays that for a salvage non-operating car. There are solid drivers going for that price.

Edit: Ok, it actually doesn't say it's not operating, it says it needs more money to make it a driver. I still agree with my point, but it's slightly less crazy.

It is a shame the car was stolen years ago and received a California assigned vin. If the vin tag was still in place, it would be a great car to restore. It is 100% original interior and paint from the firewall back. And the IMAGE front end is a nice piece. Gary also has the front bumpers, brackets, headlight buckets, bulbs, motors and the hood is mint original. I guess the deer damaged the top surround and a side panel, so a complete IMAGE front end made better sense.

I think 15-18 is more realistic, but at the end of the day the car will always have an assigned California vin, which forever has been a 50% minimum hit in value. Even if the original vin is discovered off the frame, it will never be able to be attached back to the car. Once stolen and in NICB, it is there for life as I understand it. At least that is what DMV said last Friday.

It is a car that will provide alot of repair hours and expense to get it back operating as correct as possible. An hourly repair shop would certainly be out of the question. The no vin plate will detour interest but there doesn't seem to be an alternative. No one mentioned if there was any frame damage from prior contact with immovable objects. This may be a possibility.
I wouldn't look through rose colored glasses if I was a prospective buyer. The present owner must have had estimates and thought better of persuing that goal. 15-17 sounds about right baring the unforseen.
The economy will bring out alot of cars in the next couple years looking for new owners. I wouldn't be so quick to dive into this project.

Sounds like a good candidate to make a racer.
