Like I said on another post, I drove the 63 for the first itme the other day, today, I started it up and the temp gauge which was working great yesterday started acting up, the needle went past 240 to what would be about 280 and stayed there, I drove about 30 total miles, when I got home and cooled the car down the needle returned to O, I checked and the motor and radiator were cool, no evidence of over heating....what gives?
You might have a ground problem with the gauge cluster. Before redoing my cluster, my temp gauge would act up. My ground wire was not connected, but now, it's fine. Dennis

I agree probably bad ground my gauge was loose in the cluster on my 63. Had to pull the cluster to tighten but that's all it was. I have a spare 63 gauge now................

1. Sending unit has gone south.
-or-
2. The wire from the sending unit to the gauge has grounded.
Turn the key on and remove the connector from the sending unit - the gauge should peg to Cold; then ground the connector terminal to the engine and the gauge should peg to Hot. If that happens, the gauge and wiring is fine and it's the sending unit.
