Default C1 Chassis - missing bracket

Hi all, I have a (or rather don't have) a small bracket that is I believe located on the front left arm of the X-member or support arm that is welded to the x-member and rail. The bracket holds either the end of the handbrake (emergency brake) cable or has something to do with the speedo cable. I have seen a picture of it, but can't find it, in fact ordered one some time ago but got lost in the mail. It is a small u-shaped braket (actually looks more like a 'J' that is welded on. What I need is some accurate photos and exact dimension of the item so I can fabricate and location measurements so I can attach. Need thickness, radius, width, lengths etc.

I have looked in aftermarket parts supplier catalogues but no mention of the phantom bracket.

Much appreciated if you could help

Can you tell me where, roughly, this is in relation to the base of the firewall? If it's close enough to the bottom of the firewall I might be able to get my hand down there and take a picture of my 62.

Mick, Look at Sect 5, Sheet 2.00 in the 1962 Assembly Manual and pictures I just took. Is it the "L" shaped bracket that holds the Left Front flexible brake line from the wheel cylinder? I couldn't get any better pics. Pic #1 from above and Pic#2 from the side.

Default Bracket

I think this is it, can be seen in a number of your very nice pictures (which did make me a little sad and jealous).

First photo (and second) lower right corner just to the right of the hole for the body hold down on the X-member support.

I believe the clutch spring bracket is attached to the left rail.

The bracket I'm interested in holds (I think) the outer cover for the ebrake cable. I am a long way off theexamples below for my chassis. Most brackets were cut off mine - don't ask me why and replaced with crap that didn't work or was missing.

that bracket is where the e-cable from the firewall attaches on the frame....the outer housing of the cable. It needs to be fastened so that the cable itself will move back and forth inside to actuate the bracket lever for the two e-cables that run back to the e-brakes themselves.

it is for this cable

the cable above, the armoured housing has 2 ends on it. The brass end goes into that bracket you are talking about. You notice the threaded piece on that end of the cable that attaches to the ebrake lever.

the other end attaches to the firewall and the end of the ebrake pull lever.

ok?

at the bottom of the photo, see the nut and the lock washer, that bracket clamps around the ebrake brass end from above.....make sense? it basically clamps around that brass end piece.

Yes that is it "Ebrake sleeve end clamp"(where the nut and lock washer are shown in the parts catalogue extract) but there is no part number for that bracket. So I need to make one - would be easy if I had one to look at but mine is missing. If anyone can supply me with some pictures and accurate dimensions and location measurements OOORRR if someone has a spare would make me real happy. I managed to order one off ebay quite a while ago but never made it to here, think my forwarding address swallowed it up.

The easiest way is to go to www.tinypic.com and upload the photo, then copy the IMG code into your corvette forum post.

Default Measurements

So this will answer your questions for a 1957 vette bracket.

2 1/2 inch long total from frame you have the rest welded to the frame
1 inch wide square edges!
Bolt hole 3/4" from frame to center 3/8 hole on bottom of the bracket c
Bolt hole 3/8" from open air gap, top of the c bracket to center of the hole.
Bend with 3/8 air gap from top of the bracket c to frame.
1/8 thick steel

let me know if you have any of yours still welded to the frame.

I can copy my orginial and mail it to you if needed.

arw57, thanks for your reply. Your extra measurements cleared up a few more questions. I do have a few more though, namely:
- what is the distance between the lower part of the curved 'P' and the top part of the curved 'P' (is the cable a tight fit when inserted)?
- is this part of the curved 'P' a perfect radius?

Thanks for your kind offer to the fabricate the bracket for me but I do live in Australia and postage etc may prove to be prohibative. If you could send me a top, front and side view of the bracket I will give it a go first.

Default Bracket

The radius forms to the cable by tighten the bolt tight. I would bend the bracket around a socket the same size as you cable. Are you building a NCRS car or a driver. I will get some more photo's for you tomorrow with a ruler behind the bracket.

arw57,
It is a driver, but I would like to make it as good as I can for my own piece of mind and for resale value. If I'm going to make the bracket may as well make it right.
