I am looking at a 66 coupe and have a question about the trim and ecl. The trim code is 430 AG. I checked out a decoder and it says that the "ECL code does not match the trim code" Exactly what does this mean? Also, the car is Polo Green, but it appears they didnt have that color in 66 and the paint code (982AA) comes back as silver green which I assume is Mossport Green. Is that correct?

AG would not generally be found with a 430 code. Now, does the car have shoulder harnesses and or power windows?
That is the ECL for shoulder harnesses. I don't know why it doesnt show up with that particular interior combination.
When I first bought my '67, it had black leather seats. After I retrieved the tank sticker, it showed that it had "Standard Black Trim", which is black vinyl and it also had headrests. Seems a previous owner didn't like the seats he had and swapped them for black leather seats. I'm not a big fan of headrests but in the interest of restoring the car correctly, I put the headrests back in and recovered everything with black vinyl.
430AG says it was built with power windows, and without headrests, shoulder belts, Powerglide, or a big tank. 982 is Mosport Green.
But, the reason for the confusion, is that the AG code is not listed as being used on the 430 interior combination. The source he checked did not recognize it as legitimate. Obviously it was used though.
Thanks for the info. So, I guess the decoder is incorrect?
Mike
Which decoder are you using? The act of developing an ECL decoder that is 100% accurate is very complex because of many factors, including option interactions, and mis-information.
If you contact the programmer of the decoder they may update it for you.
The decoder is from a website and he does make a disclaimer that there are variables and disagreements on what is correct, so I wont name it here.
Another question I asked is can I assume "silver green" is Mossport Green?
What's the source for your decoder ? Noland Adams Vol 2, pg 375 Table 2 shows it as valid for trim 430 (among others), as John H. has described.
Same thing in the NCRS Authentication Library [Trim Tags], Vol 1; page 56 or 57.
Actually, if you read Noland's charts closely you will see that for 430 it says use chart #1 which does not have the AG code. The AG code is in chart #2. I would guess the decoder used this information and does not recognize it as valid.
