Default Project 396 Sidepipe Questions

Project 396 Sidepipe covers removed today on driver's side.

Questions:

The pipe from the exhaust manifold to the sidepipe is 2.5".
Then it is necked down to 2" for clamping to a muffler.
Is that normal? Seems like 2.5" all the way would be less restrictive.

On the rear after the muffler, there are big dimples in the 2 1/5" pipe, then the tip. The tip is pointing downward quite a bit.
Is this standard?

the mufflers are really small diameter and don't look like they "muffle" much. Is that the stock size? (24" x 3.5" OD)

My plan is to make it the stock design if possible.

Are the factory type exhaust pipe from the manifold to the sidepipe available? My DS one os ok, but the PS one looks like it took a hit, mashed in pretty good.

many thanks in advance for any comments, suggestions, etc.

they are not OEM pipes. GM pipes are one unit.

It looks like someone welded in glasspacks of some sort. I used Vettepacks, they do not have the bark of original style sidepipes. There was alot of talk about what sounds best.
Do a search on Vettepacks.

Sidepipe discussions are like the "overheating" and "5 Speed vs 4Speed" ones. Do a search on SIDEPIPE or even "TOO LOUD".

Make sure the side pipes are stamped " 396 only ". Did you ever think of a daily journal so you can list question and answer as I have a feeling everything from carb bolts to gas cap is going to be questioned.
