Did Mid Year Vettes Come with a Wonderbar Radio?
I came across a guy at a swamp meet today, had a Corvette 65 AM FM radio for sale and we made a deal on it. Soon after he opened up a box he had on the side of his truck and showed me a radio that looked like a mid year AM FM radio but it had a wonder bar button. What year are those from?

Basically they were all pretty much the same, except for a few details, the AM FM has the slide for changing bands, and they were all mounted in a vertical position with the ***** at the top above the dial.

In march 63 they started offering the am/fm U69. My 63 was made aprox. march 15 and has the am U65. $37 more for the U69. Probably offered the am until the supply ran out. Maybe my PO wasn't into the new fangled high fidelity or was just frugal...

So.. what you are saying this was not an option for the 63, was it a standard issue radio then. Is this not a rare find, I have his number and he is asking 350.00 for it, it is dusty but in nice shape otherwise do not know if it will fire up either. I had never seen a C2 with this radio, I always thought they were used only in the late C1.

Radios were not standard on any C2. If not ordered, the dash was not cut but left blank from the clock down to the console. Search this forum for "No Radio" and "Radio Delete".

Why would you want an AM radio, even a wonderbar, there's nothing on AM worth hearing. Go for the Am-Fm with a MP3 adapter. Rare shmare.

My '63 is a September car and came with the AM Wonderbar radio. It was one of the few options it came with and one of the first things I changed back in '69 when I bought it. I replaced it with an AM/FM from a '67.
I did manage to keep the Wonderbar all of these years, but I seriously doubt it still works...
Good luck... GUSTO

FM add-on to Wondeerbat AM radios
There were FM addon units sold in the 50-60s for about $19 that plugged into the wonderbar unit. Worked well. In fact my 47 year FM add on died last year. Replaced with a new unit( made 50 years ago)=sold on Ebay for$100. Allowing for inflation todays $100 is yesterdays $10. Regards, Abe G
