To quickly check the operation of the gauge, just ground the green wire at the sensor, then remove it from the ground. The gauge should make a full deflection. The sensor simply varies the resistance to ground to swing the gauge. If the gauge fully deflects, the sensor is bad. Dave
Not really doing any work under the hood or behind the cluster, I do believe the fuel gauge still registers, but I will check the fuse in the fuse box, will the fuse box identity the fuse for the fuel & temp gauge? Also, where would the sensor be located, is this just a matter of following the wires from the gauge?
It would be the top left fuse and it not marked as temp gauge but say "Fuel Ga" If you fuel gauge is working it is not the fuse. The sensor fitting goes into the block up near the thermostat housing. If you look at the upper edge of the valve cover you will see an insulated wired running along that upper edge going from the dash harness thru the firewall along that valve cover to the sensor. That wire has a slide on connector to the top of the sensor. If you need a pic let me know and I can take on and post. I'm sure you'll be able to find it.
If the fuel gauge works and removing and or grounding the wire at the temp sender does not move the gauge with the key on, disconnect the battery and carefully remove the (RH) bulkhead plug of the engine harness to check for corrosion on the contacts of the sender wire.
