Just bought a 65. When I turn on the low beams - one bulb lights. When I hit the high beam switch all 4 bulbs light. That rules out a bad bulb or bad electrical connection.
I ordered the shop manual, parrts manual and wiring diagram but have not recieved same yet.
Is there a stand alone headlight relay or is it part of the headlight switch? Could this be the relay?
You've got a bad bulb. The low beams have two filaments, low and high. The low side has burned out. You'll just have to replace it.
What about if both low beams are working properly and then go out completely when one hits the high beam button .... i.e. no headlights at all on high.
Just happened to me today as I was idling at a burger joint walking around the car while chomping on a Big Mac and checking my lights and turn signals. When I punched the high beams all four bulbs came on for about 30 seconds and then all four went dead .... while still idling. It was getting dark and I started to feel like I needed a bowl movement (and not because of the Big Mac). Fortunately as soon as I took them off high beam the lows came back on.
Bad high bulbs or a weak circuit breaker?
Any thoughts would be appreciated and sorry about semi-hi-jacking the thread

I would think that the problem lies in the dimmer switch with this problem. I may be wrong and someone will correct me if I am.
OK - since warm weather is around the corner I finally replaced the bulb.
It's not the bulb - same problem. High beams 4 on, low beam only right outside bulb.
Before I start probing connections with a meter and tracing wiring am I missing something simple?
Headlight harness feeds Driver side first , with jumper to passenger side, make sure plugs (male and female) on harness are clean.
You may have a break in wire to low beam plug . Or, dimmer switch plug may be loose. It feeds harness to headlights. Since you are getting power to right side, it could be in low beam feed from bucket harness to bulb on left side
Is there any tolarance on the frame measurements. Can it be one inch off and the body fit correct. I am sure all the C2 that came out of GM were not perfect.
I was informed that if one would measure the distance between the top side of a tire(does not matter what corner the tire is on) and the inside wheel well, and compare the other side, the majority are off by 1/2" to 2".

I think you may have intended to post your question in a new or other thread, but I'll go ahead and share a few things here anyway.
Measure the bottom of your frame rails to the floor just behind the fronts and in front of the rears to compare with your other data to see if it is the springs sagging or the body simply mounted off ..... a 1/2" difference between both data sets was what I've been told would be the normal max .... but let one of the real experts weight in here.
I have a 3/8" listing to one side (left to right) on my frame which also matches my differences between the topside of my tires and the top of the inside lip of the relavant wheel wells so my boddy-to-frame was mounted pretty close to dead on from the factory.
I was asking about my listing to one side (3/8" lower on the pasenger side) on another thread and was told to forget about it ..... plus once I place my 200# body into to the driver's side, everything becomes nearly equal to within one tenth of an inch. See this threads:
Thanks - I will check the connections, clean the low beam connections then start probing with the meter.
If you haven't gotten your wiring diagram yet, you can save and/or print the one linked from the help section near the bottom of this web page: http://home.mchsi.com/~magicv8
I had this same problem not to long ago. I tried the bulbs, no help. Bubba had been under the hood by the drivers side headlights and had some how cut and re-attached the green wire. I could never get it right and I finally replaced the front wiring harness and it all worked. It made me so happy that I am now going to replace the dash and rear harness, I hope this weekend.
