Default winter storage

I put my 82 vette in a garage for the winter and live in a very wooded area. Have small kids so they are in and out of the garage so door is left open a lot. What is a good way to store it so mice do not get in. Not able to store off the ground. What is the most common way they would get into the car. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Vin

Go to the red user bar at the top of the page and enter "mice mouse" in the search. You'll have 250 threads to read about similar problems and solutions. Something many of us fight each year around this time

If you have a mice issue. There are too many ways to get in. I use the sitcky traps. Put them around each tire.

I put traps w/peanut butter on both sides of all 4 tires. Plus some poison bate. Check, and empty, the traps regularly.

Here's what I did. Build it, set it out and forget it. Empty it in the Spring.

Drive it. Keep a car going frequently and you have less chance of mice. Also, if you have kids running in a lot, it might keep the place a little less mice friendly, especially if they take their pet dog or cat in with them.

OR

You can do my preferred method. I offer winter storage in warm florida climate and exercise plans for poor Corvettes normally stuck in the terrible areas of winter. No Corvette likes to sit, and it is bad for the brakes and other parts, so I have a plan to drive them once a week to keep all fluids running.

Part of the plan means that they are fully available for you to fly in and drive to the Winter Regional in Kissimmee with your Corvette, rather than using a rental car.

It is such a deal I offer.

You may want to purchase a car capsule. Keeps the rodents out and would protect somewhat from the kids. Here is a recent tread on them.

I have an 18ft unit, that I use mainly for dust control. I store my C2 in a body shop.

Using a capsule you will only need a mouse trap at the vent opening.

For temps over 40 degrees I use a Frigidaire de-humidifier. That keeps humidity @ 40-70% below humidity outside the capsule. On days of 70%+ humidity, humidifier pumps out 3-5 gallons of water every 24 hours. My gauge in the capsule will read about 35% humidity.

The capsules blower system keeps air flowing, but does not reduce the humidity.

I also built a pvc frame to hold the capsule up when deflated. I just drive in, zip up and turn on the power.

All of the above set me back about $750.

Dryer sheets in the interior and in the engine compartment have always worked well for me. The scent keeps the mice away from the car.
