Default Trim Code: 426A?

Is the trim code usually just a number (i.e. 426) or is is normal for it to show 426A. The car I'm looking at is silver inside, but with black carpet. The trim tag shows 426A. Any chance that is correct?

First off, I assume it is a 1965 or 66 Corvette. 426 is silver vinyl for both cars.
The "A" suffix was used as what they call the ECL code, or "exception code letters", that is options that came with the car.

Example, with power windows, without hard top. St. Louis cars have two letter codes (AA, AD,AK etc) and each has its on meaning as what cam with the car and what did not. It told the workers to add power windows for instance, and not a hard top.

Single "A" code is usually on A.O. Smith body cars (Need the body number to confirm that) and means no headrest, no shouler belts, no 36 gallon gas tank.
and, the car is a coupe.

If you would advise all of the tag data, and the year of the car, I could give you a better answer.

Yes, you're correct. This is a 65 coupe. AO Smith body. I should have kpet reading in my Noland Adams book a little further as I found the same answer as what you just stated. Thanks for helping out!

Is it also silver outside? There is a member here that is collecting the info on all 65 silver/silver cars. If so, send me a message and I can connet the two of you. Not many of those built.

Let me know if it is black/silver. I am also trying to find that combo (same as mine) and I have only been able to document 2 (including mine) for 1965.

You mean black paint, silver interior, right? This one is silver paint, with silver vinyl and black carpet. I guess the carpet was replaced sometime...unless anyone can verify that as a special order or something.

Yes, mine is black exterior and silver interior. From the research I have done I have not seen any mix of color in the interior of a silver other than the dash pad is black. All the pics I have seen are silver seats, silver carpet and silver door covers.

There is a 1965 coupe currently listed on Hemmings Classified that, by the cowl tag was a Silver / Silver A.O. Smith car. It is currently a White / Black car.

You, sir, set a record in my view. 22 year member, first post! Welcome!

They do get changed over the course of about 60 years. That looks like it might be worthy of discussion in its own thread.
