Default Volt meter conversion question HELP

Hello,
I had Corvette instrument service convert my tach, oil pressure to electric and ammeter to volt meter. I have a 61 that I am installing a TPI 350 in that has a 1-wire alternator install.

I know how simple it is to wire the volt meter, but I am looking for some help on how to clean up the mess of wire that was going to the ammeter? I have a wiring diagram, but electrical is not my stron suit.

I did the search but could not find any helpful information.
Thoughts/suggestions? Mark

If you no longer need the ammeter, the wires from both terminals get connected together. If you need something to anchor the the wires, a 30 to 50 amp (depending on wire gage and demand) circuit breaker might be useful in that position.

When I converted my 61 to a voltmeter I used the idea presented in this article from MAD electrical.

http://www.madelectrical.com/electri...p-gauges.shtml

The article is about a Dodge van, but I was able to apply the basic information in it to rewire my car. I decided to use fusible links just like in the article. Did the conversion 4 years ago, never any problems.

Default install

Thanks- the article has great info. I think I will use that to clean up the ammeter wires. Plasticman sent his his alterntor wiring, which adds a resistive load and uses 3 wire hookup. I'm thinking that a combination of this article and his install would be the best result...

Definately go with the 3-wire set-up as diagramed by MAD. Almost all 1-wire units sold merely put a plastic plug where the the connector goes for the 3-wire. Buy a plug/wire for the alternator from your local auto parts store and hook it up per MAD instructions. With only 1-wire it is hard to get full voltage where needed.
