Heater/defroster install
My car has a non working heater defroster which is a problem occaionally when I drive at night and the windshield sweats. I have searched but find no threads on the approach to restoring it to see if this a project I can tinker with myself.
Can anyone refer me get info?
Thanks
These year C1s have a REAL funky grounding for the blower motor that attaches to the sheath of the TEMP cable. A common trouble spot...it would pay to check that out right off and make sure that: a) there is in fact a ground wire there, and, b) it is making a good electrical connection. Also check the fuse and the brown wire that goes to the center console switch.
Here is JohnZ's advice:
"The original ground path for the motor is through the metal sheath of the temp cable back to the console plate (lousy design); before you start swapping parts, run a dedicated ground wire from one of the blower flange screws to a good ground under the dash and see how that works; VERY common C1 problem.

This gives me at least info on at least what to ask!
I'll look at this info and come back to see if I can take this on.
maybe it's not as complicated as it looks!?
That seems a bit strange. This is a "wag" but it seems to me about the only way that could happen is if someone rigged the cable the wrong way. Not even sure if that could be done. Have you looked up behind the box to see how the lever for the door is positioned? Have someone pull the control cable while you watch behind the box or just work it in and out by reaching around the console. When the lever is down (cable pulled out) the door pushes the air up to the defrost outlets. I'd check out the cable arrangement if you can.
Sorry I can't be of more assistance.
Let us know what you find!

After looking at the diagram I think the previous owner put the door on backwards. The control arm for the door is in an elevated position when pushed all the way in.If I ever have to replace the heater core I'll correct it.As it stands heat and defroster works, just in reverse positions
and I can live with it for now.
Great diagram!
Thanks,
