Two generic brake pull thoughts:
While it is easy to assume the front brakes are the culprit I believe a grab on one side or another in the rear would also cause the front to react. Another thing to consider is that the pull can either be one brake over reacting or it could be one under performing.

Sorry to hear of your C1 brake issues, but I fought them for a good while as well. New hoses all around, new cylinders, shoes, hardware, drums true (everything done on all 4 corners), and it still pulled erratically (sometimes in both directions during the same stop - first one way, then to other). And yes the suspension was in great shape.

Changing to front discs solved all that completely (I gave up!). And I am still using the original master cylinder (with the pressure valve removed).

But the first place to start is the hoses.

Default C1 Brake Problem

Thanks for all the ideas.

Have it apart. Put new hoses in. Inspecting all.
Nothing suspect found so far,
But!

One question. The longer pad brake shoe is towards the rear of the car, correct? That's the way they are and don't see any information which is says what is correct.

Correct...the front (or leading shoe) is shorter:

You have to be scrupulously clean when doing this job...a last step before putting the drum on is to spray all friction areas with Brake-Kleen...

I've bet another forum member a spaghetti dinner that the brake hoses fix the problem...

Frankie:

Changed hoses, inspected backing plate (no grooves), No leaks, Shoes look nearly new with slight wear (where it should be after just a couple hundred miles on them). Drums look excellent. Adjusted brakes tight and backed off 7 clicks, Bleed both sides, good hard pedal no drop with time.
Test drove.
Stops straight with no pull even with pretty hard brake from 70 MPH.
Problem solved!

Thanks!! Enjoy your dinner!

Good...sometimes you get off easy on these fixes and avoid some exotic repair. The hoses are overlooked quite often because they seem fine externally but time has taken its toll on the inside...

Just to add to this post, I just fixed my pull the same way. I bought all new stuff except the rear hoses. They had to order them and it took a while. While I waited, I had the drums turned and one was way off, all the others didn't need a thing.

Finally got the rear hoses and it solved my problems. Unfortunately, I had my tranny go down and had to pull it just a day after I fixed the brakes. Too hot to drive this week anyway, but I'm glad the pull is fixed.
