Default 61 braided strap engine compartment

There is a strap attached by a sloted screw on bottom right side of engine just below generator. It's about 6" long. Appears nothing is available for it to attach to. Does anyone know the use of the strap? Joe

It's one of the many ground straps for the car. It should attatch to the front engine mount I believe if I can recall correctly.

Lots of ground straps on Corvettes.

You can see the grounding straps for your car in the AIM. Look in the electrical section. From your description, it sounds like the strap on the motor mount. There should be one on each side.

I'm not familiar with a strap and a slotted screw over there, but here's the main ground strap at the passenger motor mount.

And here's both straps on the motor mounts

Default 61 ground strap motor mount

Thanks for the picture and info. The AIM doesn't show the ground strap in question. What is the lower end of the ground strap attached to? The picture doesn't quite show this. It looks like the frame. Thanks again. Joe

The bottom end is connected to one of the bolts that holds the motor mount to the frame.

Check the Radio section of your AIM, that's probably where the ground strap is shown.

Look in the options section at the back of the AIM. Under "Radio - Ground Straps."

The lower end of the strap attaches to one of the bolts that hold the mount bracket to the frame.

I don't have that ground strap on my 58, should I? My car didn't come with a radio.

There are no slotted screws on the engine in a '61 Corvette (except the coil clamp and water pump rear cover). Sounds like a Bubba addition.

Yea...that what I thought about the slotted screw. Looks like the strap should attach to the motor mount...both bottom and top of ground strap. Thanks. Joe

Joe if you don't have an assembly manual, or need a better picture of the other end of that ground strap, let me know and I'll go take a picture of my 62 and post it for you.

Default Slotted screw

Thanks. I think I know where it goes now. The previous blogger sent me a picture with an explantion. The strap is bound at both ends to the motor mount bolts. If this is not the case let me know. Joe

Correct. Big connector goes over the large motor mount bolt on top of the orange mount that is connected to the block, as shown in my original picture. Small connector goes on a bolt on the black mount that is connected to the frame.

Default Motor mount bolt

The bolt in the picture shows the nut on top of the mount. My bolt has the nut on the bottom of the mount. Which is correct? If nut goes on top, is it hard to get the bolt out once it is in the mount? Like I said, this guy detailed my engine compartment by taking engine out of car. Thanks. Joe

The nut goes on top, and it is not normally difficult to remove the bolt.
