If that is a '57 engine, then it is a Tonawanda-assembled 283 originally equipped with a 2 BBL carb and mated to a Powerglide transmission. It was assembled on March 26 1957.

It could have been originally installed in any '57 model: 150, 210, or Bel Air.

Did they have an Impala model in '56? I could be way wrong about this, but I thought the Impala didn't come out until later - '58 maybe? I thought the Bel-Air was the top of the line model in '56.

Comments?

Yup, 58 was the first year for Impala. I had one.

Yes, the "F" suffix indicates both the 2 BBL and the Powerglide.
