Default 283 identification

Hi. I have been trying to identify a couple of 283 blocks. One site said that one of my 283's is from a 1958 Corvette and another site said it is from an Impala. Would anyone be able to decode my numbers or direct me to a good site that is 100% correct? My numbers are below:

Block 1:
Casting number at rear of block: GM 3756519
Stamped engine code at front of block: FI08DB

Block 2:
Casting number at rear of block: GM 3896944
Stamped engine code at front of block: V050IDA

I also have cylinder heads (power pack). I don't know if any of these would match the blocks, though. Any help here also would help me out a lot:

One set of heads has 3884520

One set has 3795896

And the one spare has 3774692

Thank you again and have a great day!

The 519 block was used from the middle of 58 until late 1961.

Hope that helps a little

Default Price?

Thanks for the information. This and the link really gave me what I needed. If you had an idea on what these blocks or heads might be worth, please reply back. Thank you again for the help.

The key to the Impala block is the casting date. If the year is "8" and not "58" then it is the same configuration as the Corvette #519 motor. Assuming that you knew the assembly code on the pad would contain a suffix that might not work for the car you were looking to put it into anyway, you would be no worse off than if the engine had a Corvette suffix. Your code does indicate a Flint block.

It could be argued that this type block, (#519 with single-digit year) from a year with no VIN derivative, would be a simple pad restamp of the assembly code (prefix/assy date/suffix) of being any Corvette motor from 1958 you want it to be.

Hypothetically speaking, of course.

Point is, it may not be a Corvette block, but to some restorers who might have to restamp the pad to get what they want anyway, that block could possibly be worth as much as a Corvette block.
