Default Pre-winter project.

If I can find the right help, I am looking to start some work before winter. I had a friend look at my car after hearing some noise in the back that would come an go on occasions. I was told that I need new rear wheel bearings. Should I buy a complete wheel bearing kit from one of the reproduction parts sellers or just buy the individual bearings from the local car parts store (eg., Advance Auto, Autozone or Napa)?

Also saw that my bellhousing is cracked. I know the easiest way to replace this is to pull the engine and tranny, but can is be replaced without removing the engine?

If I remove the engine and tranny, I will probably have the engine re-painted along with the bellhousing. Will also re-do my valve lash on my 327 365HP with solid lifter engine and may re-place spark plugs. Any other recommendations to do while the engine is out of the car?

wow, you are covering a lot of ground in one post
as far as the rear bearing, i would pull the trailing arms and look at their condition also...you may need to replace them
there are vendors here to help you either re build yours if they are good, or replace them in their entirety, bushings and all ......van steel comes to mind and i think vbp also
the bell can be replaced with the mill in the car and you can set your lash without pulling it too....good luck....

You can remove the bellhousing without removing the engine.

Some people remove their transmissions this way since it doesn't require any work on the topside of the engine compartment. Just support the back of the motor.
