Settle an argument guys........
Original Avanti was produced as 1963 and 1964 models only and had Studebaker motors (including a Paxton supercharged version). Avanti II was started as 1966 models with Chevy "Corvette" 327 engines, and over the years had anything from a 400 down to a 305 SBC with either Muncie or Turbo 400 to OD automatic, depending on the year. I did not follow the later convolutions of the Avanti ownership and vehicles, so above info is for the 60's through mid 80's). Wife drove a 63 Avanti for 17 years daily that I had converted to a SBC LT1 (350) with a Turbo 400 with the later 64 style rectangular headlights. Also was President of the local Avanti club for 6 years.Plasticman

Were wire wheels an option, they looked really good on it?

On an Avanti II, you order just about ANYTHING! I have seen some great options, and some not so great - imagine ugly greenish brown **** carpeting with a burgundy and gold brocade (think heavy drapery material) covered seats...exterior was a metallic offtone gold with a greenish cast.
