I know this isn't or most likely isn't Corvette, but my father thinks this is a Fraser Nash sports car or a British car, and I say it's an old Benz! What sayest thou, o learned ones???

The horizontal body trim, painted in body color, that is immediately above the wheel well opening.

Here's my uneducated guess, Mercedes 190 SL as I have never seen a 300SL with wide whites although some 190s sported wides and later narrow whites.

One thing for sure, it's not a Frazer/Nash. They weren't in business together.

There was a Kaiser Darrin plastic sports car. Kaiser/Frazer were partnered. That picture doesn't look like a Kaiser Darrin.

He might have been referring to a Nash Healey. Definitely a 190.

I'd say a early 190 SL that probably didn't have the chrome above the wheel lip.
Really brings back memories. My dad was a mechanic for a Studebaker dealer that sold Mercedes Benz in the 50s and 60s.Besides those great cars I got to experience Studebaker's 55 Speedster,Golden Hawks and Avanti.

I saw an original Avanti in a small town in Ontario this week! Almond beige with real wire wheels. When I returned to take a picture of it, it was gone. Cool cars and CHEVY equipped!

Mercedes it is, all though there does not seem to be a chrome strip on the pic of yours , maybe a different year or a detail just missed.

Original cars were Studebaker equipped; after bankruptcy and a million reorgs, they used Chevrolet SBs.
