Pictures
Tom,
Here are the pictures I promised.
Turn Signal Handle Control:
What you in engine compartment:
Air Cleaner removed: (My hook up at the carb was a little more involved since I had added a "kick-up" solenoid on the carb to compensate for the AC compressor)
Signal generator at tranny: (note that I ran the wires right along with the cable, made routing pretty easy)
Control Unit under L/F fender:
Hope these help.

Man, I'll tell you what, that sensor/fitting for the speedo cable is slick! I like that! I'm giving that Dakota unit a LOT of consideration. I think I would want to put the module inside the car and route the cable through a grommet in the firewall. And then run the wiring along my existing ign/starter harness through the other grommet.
THANKS!

Why don't you just put a hand throttle on that plug, save a ton of money/time and forget about it! The car you learned to drive on probably had a hand throttle.

You know, I'd never thought about putting cruise on the 51. But now that it's got the new 383 in it, it might be a good idea!
Here's what I want the cruise for-----------------2000mi round trip in Jan to the SACC Natl convention.

Motor mount
Tom,
That motor mount on the engine going into the old Chevy is interesting. Is that what all the old Chevys used? Does it "mount" at the same location on the car as the Corvette mount? Wonder way they didn't use that on the Vettes instead of designing something else (with built in leak potental).

If you have ever seen the top of a bare 53-62 Vette front cross member, maybe you noticed two (L&R) flat areas. Those flat areas are where the 49-52 pass car engine mounts were originally positioned. The 52-54 pass cars went to side engine mounts (the 49-54 pass car and 53-62 Vette frontends are the same).
In the below pictures, you can see where my original 51 engine mounts were on the top of the cross member.
In the pictures below, you can see the crossover mount on the V8. This is NOT a Chevy part. This mount, and the frame brackets, were made by Hurst back in the 50s-60s and maybe even up into the 70s. They have since been sold to Speedway Motors in Neb now.
The Hurst mount and frame brackets were sold seperately. You bought an engine mount for a specific engine (Chevy, Olds, Cad, etc) and then you bought frame brackets for whatever car you wanted to install an engine into. The rubber cushions between the crossover engine mount and the frame brackets are stock 55-57 Chevy front mount biscuits--------------readily available everywhere. The stack of big washers are also part of the stock 55-57 Chevy front mounts. I stacked them up to achieve proper engine positioning.
I did the first V8 engine (283) swap into my 51 Chevy back in 66, and that mount has now done duty on 4 different small blocks (283-327-350-383). It is an EXCELLENT mounting setup! Far better than anything GM ever designed. The rear of the engine is mounted with bell housing mounts on a 55-57 style Chey bell housing. This provides a 4-point mount setup which is GREAT for changing trannys-clutches-flywheels, because the engine does not have to be supported when the tranny is removed!
By the way, the big chrome bracket on top of the front of the new 383 is for the air cond compressor, which I also first installed in 66.

Thanks Tom
Tom,
Thanks for the info on the mount. I'm going to pass that info on to a guy I work with that just purchased a '53 that he wants to turn into his daily driver. Of course he's up to his neck in replacing some rusted panels but one of these days he's going to need an engine.

I know this is an old thread but I'm having a problem with the signal generator. On my c2 the unit would mount to the transmission but there wasn't any room in the tunnel to connect a cable to it. I have a Muncie 4 spd. Is that what you have. How did you mount it and did you have to modify the tunnel or anything else?

if it would help, there are angle drives that can attach to the speedometer output on the transmission that might help you tuck the cable and/or signal generator alongside the transmission.
