I am in the process of sorting out all things electrical in my 64 coup.
There are backup lights, but no switch on the tranny, no wires I can see going to or from the tranny area.
As I am going to order new harnesses and taillights, (mine are horribly pitted) I could go either way, but I think i would like to have backup lights.
I cannot find where the switch is supposed to be installed in the AIM. (anyone have a photo?)
The tranny has a Hurst shifter installed.
Could this be a reason the switch was removed?
Thanks
Jim
The B/U lights will still work when using a Hurst shifter. The reverse shift lever on the trans. should have a hole for the linkage rod that goes to the switch.
The article points to the M20 pages of the AIM, but there is no reference to the backup switch in my copy. (3pages of M20 before it goes to M35)
However the article has all the information I need. Thank you for the link.
There is no provision for the actuating rod to the switch on the reverse lever. I'm guessing that is why the switch was removed.
Now I wonder if this tranny came with the car or was replaced with the engine many years ago.
Thanks
Jim
I have a brand new switch available. $40 LMK if interested. KC
Is that just the switch? I need the shield, rod, bracket, clips... well everything, including a lever for the tranny.
I''m not sure if I'll go all red or install backups.
Thanks
Jim

Backup lights were standard in '66-'67, and the switch is shown in the M20 section. In '64, they were an option, and are shown in the T86 section, sheets 1.00 and 2.00.
