What made you want a C1 or C2

When my uncle pulled into my dad's driveway in 1963 with a brand new black split window coupe from Ellis Brooks Chevrolet, took me and my brother for a ride, and that was it for me.

Had a 63 XKE Jag roadster in 1969 (while still in the Navy), but getting parts was a "problem". Example: 12 month wait for a new radiator header tank (surge tank). Decided I wanted something "similar", but something I could get parts readily for. Traded the Jag in for a 66 Vette convertible. Been hooked on them ever since........although I did get another XKE roadster later on (another sad story).

I used to hang out in a pool hall when I was 21, that was in1963. There was a Chevrolet dealer next door. Every year when they got their new cars we would walk over to the dealer and check them out. They had a silver split window on display that I was the coolest car in the world. The image always stuck with me and it took many years but now one is on display whenever I open my garage.

Being in my 50s and finally having a little disposal income, I began my quest for my dream car. I drove several modern day sports/muscle cars and found them fantastic but only at speeds above the limit. I test drove a Mustang GT and looked at the speedo and I was doing 90 in 3rd gear, lol. I then researched vintage resto-mods and decided to go that route. Most were more expensive than a new ZR1. I found a car with 80% of what I wanted for a price I could afford. I then discovered the car was still 20% more than I needed, lol. I recently drove it from Fl to Tx and felt 16 again. I can have lots of fun within the speed limit and it sounds like a million dollars. I am going to replace the vintage steering wheel as it is just too big and too skinny for my comfort. If I had the money I would immediately look for a second one. I have "Corvette Fever", lol.

My Dad traded in a Roman Red '62 hardtop at his used car lot in Fredericksburg, Va. in 1968...some Marine from Quantico had re-worked the car with a reverse tear-drop hood scoop, huge slotted disc wheels and fat tires -- and God-knows-what done to the motor. The 'ole man took me for a ride and climbing into the passenger side was like entering a Mercury space capsule compared to other cars of the era.
All I remember was the screaming engine and slamming from side-to-side in the seat with a white-knuckle grip on the grab bar as my crazy Italian Dad "ripped it up" on the back roads shifting like a maniac.
I hollered over the din, "Dad...you're gonna blow this thing up?". He replied, "Nah...these cars were made for this!"....smiling the whole time.
How could you not fall in love with a machine like that ??

She was sitting there inside the Great Lakes Mall, Mentor Ohio 1963: a SWC... it was love at first sight. I was just 12.

Noticed a Corvette for the first time going for a family drive after church when i was 8 or 9. We drove past a Chevy dealer, and I asked "What is that car?" pointing at a Corvette. Hooked since then. Built several plastic scale models, painting them with intricate detail. I was determined to have one some day. Bought a '65 last year.

when I was in High school my buddy and I would hitch a ride home from school(7 miles) and one time this local guy picks us up in his 61 and all three of us squeeze in with the top done on a sunny spring day, so much fun! Also, when I was a senior in HS a lowly junior drove a 67 BB vert to school every day. Decided I'd get me one someday. I've had my 66 for 26 years. Had a 58 for a few years also.

Watching Buzz & Todd riding around in their C-1, and later, C-2, on Route 66 each week on TV. I now have both cars, and the DVD's of the Route 66 show.

My uncle had a BB coupe when I was very young. I used to ride with my dad and him in Concord Ca. Something at the time was branded in my brain.........

I just fell in love with a '62 when I first saw one. The deal was closed, until I was old enough to save some money to get one. So after 10yrs. and at the age of 19, I bought one. Even in Aug. of '72, when I bought it, it was strictly a fair weather car for me. I drove my '64 Olds Cutlass convertible year around. I will never forget on my 16th birthday, my 17yr. old brother, gave me a birthday card with $1 in it, to save toward that '62. I had pictures every where about one.

There is just a mystique about the car.For me it was the in your face dash, instruments right where you can see them, the 160 speedo the protruding tach. The bucket seat surrounded by the car body. The visual effect looking out over dash onto the hood, you become one with the car.
Kids from two to ninety stop in their tracks and stare, waves thumbs and big smiles follow.

1. Seeing my first C2 cars on California highways in the fall of 1962.
2. Though I hated westerns, sitting through Bonanaza week after week just for the Chevy commercials, I wanted to see those headlamps rotate!
3. While living at the Orange County Fair with my 4H animals, summer of '63, walking past the Chevy display with a cutaway SWC, tires rotating, the body rising off the frame to show the engine and driveshaft also turning and the IRS wheel/half-shaft units moving up and down individually.
4. First Corvette ride in a friend's dad's used '58 three-speed. My Dad bought and enjoyed fast cars, but I'd never been plastered back in the seat like I was in that C1! My friend must have also been inspired, his first car was a '65 GTO tri-power with Torq-Thrusts.

Told this story before in my 1st post here, but the short end of it is....sold the car to marry the babe...took me 45 yrs. to rectify that mistake.
To be honest, it was only a mistake in hindsight

I was in high school in the late 70's and one of my friends dad had a huge car collection including about 20 or 25 c1 or c2 corvettes. All the best years and best optioned cars. He ws a nice man who tried to infuence us into being as passionate about classic cars as he was. He would say things like, "the 67 has been run for a while, why don't you guys change the oil in it and take it out and blow the dust off of it". Here we were 16 or 17 year old kids with our little tool boxes working on these cars. It was great.
The first one my friend let me drive was a 66 coupe with a 427 4-speed. I pulled it out of the warehouse where the cars were stored and pulled up to a red light with one hand on the steering wheel and one hand on the shifter, shaking so bad from the vibration of all that power that I couldn't keep them still. The car had side pipes on it and it was so loud that you couldn't hear yourself talk.....that was the moment....right then.

When i was a young boy about 10 years old back in 1976 i saw a picture of a red C2 convertible in a car magazine. It had wide fender arches and really wide wheels and was red.
I remember telling myself that one day i want to buy a car like that.
Back in September 1993 i bought a Corvette coupe and that is a day to remember for me
Back when i saw the C2 in the magazne a Corvette C2 was more exotic than a Lamborghini Miura in my country

In 1959 I was a senior in High School (Yes, I'm that old). On our lunch hour, a friend and I would drive a few blocks to a used car lot that sold sports cars (mostly Corvettes and a few Thunderbirds). There were always several '56 to '59 Corvettes for sale for ridiculous prices ($700 to $1500). I drove a black '53 Ford convertible then but I drooled over those Corvettes. I vowed to own one someday. I now have two C1's and a C4. I have owned the "61 in my avatar since 1988.
