Adding a hardtop to my 61

$129.00 for those two hardtop side brackets is down right ridiculous.....however on storage, by setting the tops header on a carpeted board, {couple of 2X4`s} I use those side brackets to hold and keep the back window weather stripping from touching the wall and possibly deforming it .....
I think the 61-62 hardtops are the best styled tops in the Corvette lineup, bar none........and the look it presents is outstanding......definitely distinguishes them from all the rest of the early Vettes
see what I mean!
enjoy your Vette....I do mine

Dang - that car looks just like mine now...doesn't the white make a great contrast ?!
BTW - those plastic deck lid protectors are pretty necessary if you want to save your clearcoat. They have the thin ones from Corvette Central and others available but they are a PITA. wmf62 on here made thicker ones from an old convertible rear window and I made some from rubber tool box liner material. They are much easier to install and store instead of that thin stuff the vendors sell.
I think "Mom" done ya proud...

I also love the white color of the top, and so do all of my moms friends (almost all have owned at least one corvette). If you're ever in md, find me... I'd love to see my car's "twin".... just be sure you're driving the correct one back home. The dual carbs and 5 speed would be fun to get my hands on

Bill took a couple dozen stuffed animals out of the back window for this pic. After all, he is a "senior" living in Florida.
I spent about 6 years in Southern Maryland (Leonardtown) but I was into Mustangs then and drove a hopped up '66 fastback which was tough because that was definitely GM country.
Be sure to store the top properly...I've abandoned the cheapo $29 ceiling hoist as getting the top on/off the car while keeping it from spinning around with one hand while holding the rope from sliding and screwing something up with the other was turning into a circus act.
I went back to the cart although that requires a helper to mount/remove the top. The 'ole lady has gotten pretty good at it.
Dual quads are the 'bomb'...really gets the double takes at car shows and nailing the throttle is a whole new experience. The 5-speed is a fairly expensive upgrade but IMO it transforms the car. I now have a deeper first gear to roll away from stop lights with and I can cruise at 85mph with the rest of the traffic without the car even breathing hard.

I did the Keisler Tremec TKO-600 C1 kit. Their newer kit is somewhat cheaper and easier shifting (but the waiting list is way long). I finally got comfortable with the tricky 2-3 shift on the Tremec and so now I'm very happy with it. 70mph with the engine at basically a fast idle is the bomb..
