My 327 NOM has developed a miss on #6 that gets worse as the engine warms. All cylinders fire when it first starts. I did a compression check on the cold engine and found 165 to 167 on all cylinders but #6; which was 135 lb. Oh, I also hit 7,000 a few times on the tach last week. It wasn't too smart, but a lot of fun. I think that I could get by with a valve job, but hate to put more money into a seven year old motor. So, I'm seriously considering a GM ZZ4. I know that it needs a different flywheel. I'm planning on a short waterpump, Barry Grant 650 carb, and 2-1/2" rams horn manifolds. Is there a gear for my stock tach drive distributor? Are there any surprises like the fuel pump or anything?
I am planning to put a ZZ430 clone in my 63 SWC. I can either have a one piece rear main seal, which is the new style block and requires a different flywheel or the old 2 piece style which will use my existing flywheel and distributor. I am getting the engine from Golens Engine Service here in MA. http://www.golensengineservice.com/
They have a good rep and a reasonable price.
Also, I am going to go with the block hugger headers from Summit, they are around $139. I've seen some in midyears and they look good and do the job and with a little modification will work with the chambered exhaust. Just my .002 :jester

Re: distributor - you need a "melonized" gear for the bottom when installing in a ZZ4. They're less than $30, last time I looked. Check out: http://www.paceparts.com for current price. ZZ4 comes with spark plugs, but no spark plug wires.
