The tan wire is the ground for the PB warning light. Did you have ignition switch on when you tried grounding the wire?

BTW, it looks like I seriously need to pull all of that stuff out, repaint it and possibly install a new switch. I looks like it could be, ohhh...I dunno...46 years old or something!

Thanks for the update...I was wondering if this fixed it or not.

As the poster above notes, please confirm that the ignition switch was on when you tried to ground to test the warning light?

The wiring diagram shows a few different tan wires in the dash area, but the evidence is still got me thinking its the PB switch...

On the switch condition, mine looked to be in similar condition but it seemed to work flawlessly when I cleaned it up with some contact cleaner...simple design and pretty resilient in all metal construction.

Nice avatar by the way!

I think it goes only to the PB warning light beside the headlight warning light in the top center of the instrument cluster, but I don't have 4 way either on a '65. It would make some sense if that lit up also with the parking brake pulled out, since it's right there, but then how would you know the flashers were on?

My best reminder of when the PB is left on is when the T handle of it gouges me in my right shin or clips my right knee cap!

No wonder they moved it to the center console for '67.

BTW, I had to look hard to find a replacement PB bracket (mine was missing when I bought the car). The T handle, shaft, ratchet pawl and pin are readily avaialbe, but try finding the black bracket part itself that bolts to the dash and screws into the firewall...that's how I ended up with a '66 with the empty 4-way hole in it. Swap meet or e-bay were my only sources there.

I imagine the guy took it off because he got tired of it hitting his leg if he was a tall guy too...

My flashers and button work just fine so I know this wire doesn't go to it.

I'm on my way back out to work on this thing, clean the switch up and get more pictures of the wire connecter since I removed the covering on it.

BTW, I did NOT have the ignition turned on when I tested the ground on that wire. I've been drugged up from a kidney stone the last couple of days so stupid things are bound to follow. I'll retest it correctly this time.

Ok, problem SOLVED!!! I grounded the wire and it turned on the PB light.
So, I resized the connecter on the switch to take the connecter on the wire and VIOLA!

I now have a PB warning light.

Thanks for all the help guys, you rock!

Yeah, I'm still buzzed on the pain meds I took for the kidney stone I finally passed this morning, upside down in the floorboard I figured, hell...that's good enough for me.

Besides, I'll be taking all of that apart again this summer to clean and repaint everything. It looks like crap under there!

Thanks again for the info guys!

Just make sure that the PB brake light is off before you take off. Don't ask me how I know not to do this.

My power brake doesn't work anyway, but at least I have a light now!

I think you meant to say "parking brake" instead of "power brake". Time to cut down on those meds.

I'm not sure I even knew what day it was. At least I wasn't driving.

Are you sure it wasn't really this?
