How do you remove the dipstick tube on a 66 BB - more help please
I know this looks like a silly question however, I cant get the darn thing out. Yes, I removed the bolt at the manifold. It is a 66 427/425. It currently has a 454 dipstick and tube.

It is a press fit and should come out with a slight wiggle/twist.
Be carefull that you don't crush the tube.
There is a slight flaired section right at the block, you might try to tap it there
Be carefull

I usually use a screwdriver as a lever it helps a lot. Just put it under the bracket part and pry up it usually will pop right out.

Re: How do you remove the dipstick tube on a 66 BB (JL66REDCPE)
Folks - thanks for the replies.
This is driving me nuts. I have tried all of the suggestions. I have the feeling that someone put silicone sealant on the dipstick tube before they inserted it into oil pan. I have tried putting two hose clamps around the tube and then hitting a wooden block with a hammer against them upward from the bottom and it wont budge. Any other suggestions please.

If you have the pan off, you might check into tapping it up from the bottom..
I'll keep thinking

....john...basically did what has been suggested and had little problems..i would use some pentrating oil on a cold engine and let it soak, hold the top AND bottom and continue to twist until it releases

John,
A little careful application of heat at the base may do the trick. I think I'd try small propane torch using extreme caution regarding oil, gas leaks in the area, good ventiation, fire extinguisher at hand, etc. This is all assuming that the pan is still on the car.
Torch in right hand, gloved left hand ready to twist and pull.

Well -- the dipstick tube won !! I can not get the sucker out. I soaked it in penetrating fluid. I then tried attaching 4 hose clamps back to back so they would not slip and then using a piece of bar stock hitting the hose clamps upward from underneath the engine with a sledge hammer to get it off -- no luck would not budge. I cleaned up the marks I had made, touched up the paint and decided to leave it for another day. It looks like I will have to remove the pan to get it off and I am not about to do that today. Thanks everyone for your response. I think we have a clear case here of where someone was over zealous with silicone sealant. I was too afraid of trying the applied heat aproach.

Hmmmm, I usually run across the opposite problem (pull the dipstick and the dipstick tuube comes out of the block).
