Default this is probably to good to be true, right?

Check out this add i found:

" 1967 427-400HP Tri-power Corvette Roadster All matching numbers 4 speed Factory side pipes Original bolt on wheels White with blue interior 2 tops, both blue Original Mileage: 78,000 Full documentation - including original window sticker In condition #2 - Very Good MUST SELL THIS WEEK!!! - FAMILY EMERGENCY The car has been extensively rejuvenated from new interior to running train and paint in 1998. Last year (June 2001), using the original block, the motor has been extensively overhauled with forged pistons, cam and new heads to operate on unleaded (still prefers a supplement). Estimated well over the original 400HP for this motor. The original 4.11 gears (included in purchase) have been changed to 3.70 for enhanced cruising with no loss in off-the-line performance. (I have just completed a partial round the world exhibition trip with this vehicle which was highly televised worldwide) Overall it is still in perfect condition and drives as new, but could use another rejuvenation if the new owner so desired to do so. The vehicle is currently in Asia and must be returned to the USA no later then May 10th. I will pay for insured air cargo shipping to the purchaser. Full Price: $13,000 including shipping This is really giving away the vehicle for I know of owners that are selling parted out 67s for this price. I have a emergency that is requiring me to sell the vehicle quickly otherwise I would not be selling the vehicle at all. The vehicle has been in my family since 1974 and is really hard to part with. Contact me directly at"

Is this actually a desperate person looking for money? Or is it a scam where they will probably want you to send your money to asia, And then you never see the car or hear from them again?

First step in avoiding a wild goose chase is asking for ownership doc's, pics and video footage (surely the proud owner has tons of footage, pics and marketing for such a "highly televised" show circuit car). Then (based on this info) if you decide to pursue, get a quick tourist visa (if the asian country requires), put the $13K into escrow until you can fly over and "escort" the car stateside. $1500 planefare and a few days vacation are better than loosing $13K. Air transport for a car from Asia to US is several $1000 dollars.
Too many "African government" business scams turning up in emails and fax machines this year for me to take this twist seriously

I hear you on that point. Your plan is a good idea. I am real unsure about this one. The car is priced at least 40k below what it should be. Then again 13k american over there is alot of money??????

Scott,

I e-mailed that guy last week and never heard back from him, I don't know if it was a scam, or he sold the car, but he never responded.

Oh great, my secret is out  What was your feeling on this ad? Seems like way to good of a deal wouldn't you say? The guy just appears way to knowlegable about these cars to be stupid enough to give his away that cheap. Seems kinda fishy to me :U :bs

I, too, contacted this person & after several e-mails I asked him if we could establish an escrow account & also to send me, via e-mail, a picture of the title.
I didn't hear from him for a few days afterwhich I wrote again saying I wanted to start moving on the deal. His response was the EXACT same e-mail telling me where to send the 1500. Needless to say, I haven't sent him any thing.
I find it interesting that he gives the impression that he is associated with Warner Bros.& in his cover page are all these cartoon characters etc.etc.
I sincerely hope no one is foolish enough to send this guy money.
Is it just me or does the description of the car sound like it could have been taken from the infamous Napoleon, Ohio dealer's monthly sales brochure?

I knew this post was going to get intresting. Warner Bros. ah. Is that what he meant when he said the car has done extensive traveling? Hmm, maybe we will see bugs bunny driving it in his next movie. Oh, wait a second, didn't bugs bunny retire  :bs

Last time I shipped a new Viper to Australia by air (VERY wealthy customer who needed it quick to prep it to make a race date), it was $11,000.00 from Detroit. Can't believe this ad isn't a huge scam.

I almost went into business shipping highline cars from USA to South Africa. The average cost to ship was $10-$15K (and that was with US Congressional help). You can also try to set up the payment through a third party bank (that does business in that country and the US (kind of like a letter of credit).
