What size tires for a '66
We have a '66 convertible tat recently came out of a frame off complete restro. Wanted tires as close to original (7XXx15). Put on 205 75 R15 and no nrubbing. Love the tires. Just one input, others will chime in.

A lot depends on the wheel, more so than the tire itself in most cases.
Using stock steel wheels or K/Os? Then the above are correct.
Using aftermarket larger/wider wheels is a whole different story.....its mosty trial and error on each individual car.

1966 corvette tires size
One thing that you guys are forgetting is the spare tire. I own since new a 1966 Corvette, and if you have a flat, then be careful what size your tires are, as that well is very tight even for the original spare tire. My car still has the original "General" spare tire that just fits. I remember having Sears fiberglass belted tires that were very close in size to the originals, but they would've go up into the spare tire well, so I had to carry that flat in the passenger seat to get it home. Now I have an original set of Michelin "made in France" radials 195.15X with no fender rub, but I've never tried them in the spare tire well, and there's a good chance they may not fit, or just fit. The spare tire well is thin fiberglass, and they weren't thinking bigger tires.

Yeah you got nice tires, and you're lucky it goes into the well at all (60 profile made the difference) but I wanted the higher profile 75, as my car sits low enough now, even with increasing the riding height with shims and washers. You have to be real careful going up on ramps or breaking over driveways, as you can bottom out easily. Usually I hit my exhaust and break a exhaust donut, so I always wanted that extra height tires.

After I replaced the disc brake calipers I found the wheels my 66 came with are from an older model. I found a nice set of 7" rally wheels, caps, and trim rings on CL for a little over a hundred dollars . The rims fit without interference and appear to tuck under the stock quarters. I am thinking of going with 205-75 R15s. Hopefully they will clear everything without any suspension mods.

Like I said, many of these different tires won't go into the spare tire well located under the gas tank.
