I'm not sure how a rubber shift boot can rot in 18 months? Dr Rebuild has NOS and made in the USA repro's that should last a lot longer than 18 months.

Sky65,
That looks like a good solution, can you show us how you attach the boot? I'm also running a tremec 5 speed, and the stock rubber boot doesn't really work. Did you attach the boot to the bottom of the console, and then slide things into place?
Thank in advance,
Rick
This is the boot I used. I actually got the idea from another post on the forum. Note the hard band around the perimeter of the boot on the bottom. That fits under the console and around the boot opening. It a little bigger than the opening so the rectangular shape is not an issue. It is held in place when the console is reinstalled. They are available in multiple colors.
There is also a vendor that advertises shift boot specifically for midyears here on the forum. I don't know the cost.
I remember in ‘69 taking my date to her prom in my ‘58. The boot was cracked, the blow-by of that two-four barrel, 098 cam, 283 was focused on joining us. My date quickly commented on it‘s arrival, I hastily told her not to worry. She then pointed out that she was afraid the smoke would ruin her dress. Without missing a gear, I said ‘Shhhhh, it’s a Corvette, don‘t let her hear you!”. It wasn’t mentioned again.
