I have one of the low priced units with three wheels and adjustable head. It has held many engines with no issue, no big block GM's yet. I built a 6.2L GM Diesel and had to add a wood 2 x 4 for support between the front of the oil pan and the front wheel support to hold the weight of the Diesel, it seemed like it wanted to bend or break with the Diesel weight.
It has a fully loaded 327 on it today with everything including exhaust and starter with no issue. I keep a 2 foot Steel cement stake handy to turn it when needed.
[QUOTE=MikeM;1580579760]You set it up to balance with the heads on it! The short block is nothing to twirl even if it is off a little./QUOTE]
A good idea with a geared stand too. I've had the unbalanced complete motor weight drive back through the gears and spin the handle at a high rate. Good luck trying to stop that!
I bought my stand at NAPA on sale. It is the same as the HF. During the assembly I cleaned and lubed the wheel axles and the engine rotation point. Did the same with the wheels on the engine hoist from Tractor Supply.
