327 Harmonic Ballancer
My 1963, 327cid does not have a harmonic balancer, but enstead what looks like a plain Jane flange that the crank pully mounts to. Is this normal/acceptable? I had always assumed it was an older style harmonic balancer. I have the short profile waterpump and thr thickness of the flange is approx 1/2". The double crank pully mounts straite to it and I believe there is only one small tick mark on it, not the full range of +/- 10 degrees. Any thoughts?
Thanks, Ken

The low perf balancer doesn't look like much more than a flange. But it is a balancer. You won't see the degrees on either your 6 inch or the heavier 8 inch high perf balancer.
The degrees are located on a tab welded to the timing cover.

Some of the 283's used just a simple flange on the nose of the crankshaft. Can't remember if it was the ones that used a forged steel crank or the nodular iron crank.
If your 327 doesn't have a hub and outer ring separated by bonded rubber, i'd suggest you get it off there and get the right harmonic balancer installed. If you don't, the consequence could be a broken crankshaft.
A picture would help identify what you have.
