Default Horn button help

My newly acquired 65' 365 coupe was restored in 2008, then stored, Never any real "drive" time. I've been going through one issue at a time! This week it is the horn button on a Telescopic wheel that seems to be shorting at where the donut meets the contact plate. I've re-assembled the column more than a few times....with the same results! What I'm I doing wrong? Do I have the wrong or bad parts? Any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure it's not the rag joint with a bad ground strap

On the first image if I short the small spring to the threaded center shaft, the horn sounds fine!

Just to be clear, are you saying that the horn blows when you put the doughnut on? Or that it doesn't blow at all? Once assembled, does the horn blow continously?

Horn blows continously, just seems like the dougnut may be too large and forces the contact to close

I helped reassemble one of these 2 years ago...somewhat complicated for a first timer like me....

I noticed in the "second picture" and if you look at it there is a "mark" on the shaft and a "mark" on the contact.

My thought is:

Do you think that by lining them up would make any difference?

The cupped fingered part of the horn contact assy has to be touching ground somewhere, either the doughnut or it's been compressed to ground. Sorry, but I can't tell from the pictures if it's touching after it's mounted. It is insulated by the "gasket" between that part and the three fingered part that screws to the wheel hub, but it has to be rubbing somewhere.

I tried that...If I move it 30 degrees it's still off the mark, One of the holes in the contact plate is "oval" Not sure what that signifies

Default Maybe a repro bad part?

David, Looks like the "donut" # B7990 maybe too large, was it a after mkt. part that was replaced when the car was done?
