I replaced the points in my '63 when I bought it 7 years ago and I've been happy with it. No more having to mess with dwell or timing as the points wear.
Same here with my dual points same set for six years adjusted only once when installed. Besides the amount of time and technical capability to keep the ignition well tuned is extremely simple and takes less time then changing the oil, and frankly I look forward to it along with other tinkering of the fuelie, I've been doing it for so long it becomes second nature to me. Doing the simple maintenance is part of the pride of the C-1 ride! Just like my brother pre-oiling the lifters & rockers on his 1914 Buick 4 cylinder touring. If you can see the smile on his face, then you could understand. Changing to simplify maintenance can be frown upon. But then to each his own…
My brother just reminded me that I re-adjusted the points in 2009 it took me ten minutes and two beers..... Those dual window caps are great!

I wanted to replace the lousy points in my Grandma Mobile, '65 PLY Valiant S/W a few yrs ago.
So I told my buddy who was an old grizzled mechanic from the old school about several TI kits on the market....he said, "Those are crap. Go to a junkyard & get me the TI distributor & the wires off a Chrysler product."
Found a '78 Magnum & piulled the parts....the car runs smoother then it ever has. Probably put 20K miles on it since then w/o a peep out of it.
I can bring up several parts that require maintenance on today’s cars that are more time consuming then maintenance on point ignition set up over electronic. Today’s generation is about simplicity over technical ability or is it just plane lazy. Reminds me of a friend of mine that waited five minutes for a parking spot to open right in front of the doors of the gym so he wouldn’t have to walk far to his car. He was on the treadmill for 30 minutes…… If that made sense to you then discard what was previously stated. PEACE!
Last time I had a factory points ignition system fail was 1973 when the points on my Toyota snapped into two on Rt 73 in NJ on my way back to Atco Drag strip. After finding the problem, I needed to move the car 400 feet to a parking lot. Placed the manual trans in 1st gear and held the starter on as the car walked nicely to parking lot. I remember being impressed on how fast I was going. I actually thought about shifting gears ha ha ha if I had another hand. Installed a new points set from nearby auto supplier, set the gap using a pocket knife and book of matches, it ran great with no problems. I even forgot about re-setting the points for several months...
