Interior insulation
A neighbor put a sound/heat insulation product in his truck and had tons of extra material left over. Like enough to do 2-3 of my cars. The insulation is kinda thick but it seems like it would block out just about anything. In fact, he claims his truck is now ultra quiet inside. He is offering to give me the material and I was considering putting it in the Vette when I am ready. It is made by 'Second Skin' and it is one of their top products called 'luxury liner.'
Question is...what is the thickest material I could reasonably put under my carpet and still have a nice fit when I am done?
I plan on using carpet without the jute matting. I also plan on having the carpet professionally installed so it looks as good as possible. My car is a not a numbers matching special interest show car so I am not too concerned about originality. I just want the most comfortable ride I can get for long cruises and I need it to look nice as well.
Thanks in advance for the input.
Why must I apply Luxury Liner to a foam before putting it on top of my automotive vibration mat?
We recommend applying Luxury Liner on top of a closed cell foam like our Overkill Pro, because the foam acts as a decouler, and provide a change in density that will allow the airborne sound waves to reflect off of the Mass Loaded Vinyl, away from your ears. Without the foam decoupler, a good amount of the airborne soundwaves would pass right through the vinyl and enter the cabin of the car. The foam helps to increase the resutls the vinyl is able to provide.
If you add the additional material, your total thickness is 1/4" which should still be fine. Check with your carpet installer.
Free is a good price for this expensive material so if you can make it work - great!!!

If I add them together, it would be around 1/2 inch but it would squish down a bit in areas it had to like the seats.
My thinking is that the 64 carpet kit is not molded and since there are all these little strips to glue in, it might be easier to get away with thicker material underneath as long as a pro does the final carpet install. I'm sure a molded carpet would no longer fit properly if I went that route.
I'll shoot a PM to lou64 - Thanks
