Transistor Ignition Modification
I'm curious if any forum members have successfully modified an early GM TI system to use a fully encapsulated pickup/amplifier unit such as Pertronix (or other). Yes we can buy updated electronic modules, reluctor coils and the like for our aging GM TI systems but I wondered if anyone has tried to make a mounting plate and install a fully contained unit within the TI distributor using the existing GM rotating pole piece. I’m of the opinion the rotating magnetic pole piece in the GM TI would provide a greater magnetic flux field differentiation compared to the slip on magnetic units supplied by the vendor(S). If the wire color leading out from the distributor was of the same color and using the same connector it could be made to be virtually indistinguishable from stock.
