So could get timing right in my stock 67 L79. Wound up being a broken dwell meter that I bought 20 years ago. So 2 blocks away from my house, I see this guy in his garage working in this cool garage that looked like a lighthouse. He has a 1920s gas pump in front, baby tug boat with an outboard on the side of the garage and a 1941 Dodge flat head six tow truck in his driveway. I asked him if he knew anything about points and condensers and he grabbed his timing light in seconds. Two minutes later his neighboor appeared, Fred and within seconds had a Chevy distributor in his hand and adjusting my dwell with my points on his distributer on the bench. 5 mins later the car was timed perfectly. Fred said to come into his garage....He had a bone stock white 62 vette with old halibrand racing rims on it ...looked mint. Next to that was 78 Indy pace car stock. In front was a stock 64 impala and next to that was 70 Ford torino fake woody wagon with 351. In his backyard was a 59 vette awaiting restoration. I asked him Fred and Mike (the guy with the garage) if I can do, pay or help with anything. They said no, drive it with pride (the car) and pay it forward.
The vette guy was in his late 60's and with all those projects I will try to write a letter to Overhaulin to do his 59 (have nothing to lose).
Btw while the 67 was being timed, a guy with Prowler stopped by, a guy in a new C6 vert stopped and a guy is a smashed up Hybrid saying he is building a stroked 283. All wanted to lend a hand and get some knuckes skinned but Fred and Mike had it under control. Hot Rodding is alive in Old Greenwich CT.
I wish there were more people around here with old cars... Sounds like you had a great day...

Thats' the way it was back in the 1950's/60's/70's neighborhoods while growing up...many guys had the tools and talents and were always willing to help. While driving across the country a few times in the late 60's through early 70's, whether riding on my Harleys or one of my older cars, there was always some stranger willing to help...just like the good ol' Forum.
