I just replaced my wiper motor in my 65 (with help from the forum) My next task is to replace the blinker switch in the column. I pulled the steering wheel unscrewed 3 phillips screws pulled the bowl but I cannot get the wire harness out, what the trick?
No tilt if that makes a difference
Mike
you have to slide the cone cover off - the wire harness runs through it (IIRC)
Thanks I removed the cone. However there is a collar at the base of the dash that I can not slide off. I unbolted the 2 screws holding the collar in place and I can't seem to slide it off the tube. Thanks Mike
If you are referring to the escutcheon around the column where it goes through the dash (see pic below), the way I handled that was to remove the wires from the connector (be sure to label color and location for reassembly) and feed them through the space. I believe someone here once said that you could remove the wires at the switch but I am not familiar with that and I could not find the old thread for reference.
I was able to slide the escutcheon all the way up the column and then put the connector right through it. Didn't have to pull wires out of the connector ends. Yours may be a little stuck, but it will slide up the column.
