Default '58 Resto Mod Project Getting Started

Just getting started on a RestoMod project, a great friend and talented builder is doing the work. He has a few things mocked up and it's starting to take shape. It's a '58 with a mid 70's corvette frame, C4 front and rear suspension with coilovers.

LS1 w/ 6 speed from a GTO with twin 58 MM turbos with intercooler.

The floor pans have been lowered 5-6" to allow more head room, rear bumbers have been modified and fit to the body, omitted the larger sections near the license plate area. He also flared inside the exhaust openings for a more finished look.

I've included a few current pics of the car, process will be slow, but I'm getting really excited about it. Lots of decisions to make!

Awesome! What is the process for making the trans tunnel? Mesh, then what?
That motor looks like it caught on fire at some point. Am i right or is that just dirt?

Food for thought on the floor and tunnel. You car form thin sheet metal in several pieces to fit perfectly. Then laminate each piece of metal and (then seperate) and you have a piece of fiberglass. Now lay your fiberglass pieces in the car like the sheetmetal was and glass them together. Or you could leave all the sheetmetal pieces together, turn the body over and laminate the whole area where the sheetmetal is, then when it sets up, remove the sheetmetal. The later is how I did the tunnel in my project. The first is how I did the tubs

(Barn find RACEtoration of a 58 Corvette) is my thread

I'm not sure about the engine, it's been sitting for a few years, it will get torn down and freshened up. It was only in the car to clearance the trans tunnel.

He used the wire mesh to act as a form to lay up the fiberglass for the tunnel. When the body gets taken off the frame he will finish the inside of the tunnel.

It's been a long time coming but it's finally go together for the final time. I haven't posted anything in quite a while so here are some catch up pics. It's moving along pretty quick now.

Most all of the work has been completed in the last 6 months. The color is Supersonic Blue its a C6 color. Engine should be going in next week, we has a local speed shop go through everything.

Committed to twin turbo setup, with 6 speed. The car has tons of room inside with the lower floors. The seats are modified Trailblazer seats with integrated shoulder harness.

Just installed the C6 Z06 brake setup on front rear is up next.

Just a quick update, the chassis is finished, body sitting back on hopefully for the final time, engine & trans in place.

How exactly does the body actually sit on the frame? . . . I don't see any body mounts on that frame!

Beautiful car . . . love the color!

Thanks! Not positive on body mount locations, but I believe there are two just before the kick up, then two on top of the frame where it narrows at the front with welded nut inside the frame.

I'm excited to see it start to come together, I think the supersonic blue with red interior is going to look good, if not good at least it will be different.

Beautiful car - I'm doing a 61 restomod with an Art Morrison Frame - and mounting the body was quite a challenge. it would be good to see the front support for the radiator... the transmission mounts - I'm sure they are there as it has been mocked up.
The hood is WAAAAYYYY cool. Real loovers that have been cut out. really neat. Keep the pictures and progress coming!

We felt the louvers needed to be functional from a design aspect and we can use the airflow with two turbos hanging out in the engine bay!

Looks great can't wait till mine gets to that point. How are you mounting the slave master cylinder through the firewall in order to obtain the correct angle and correct rod travel?

What's the paint color? Looks very nice. My 62 will also be a blue but I haven't decided on the shade yet.

Please keep posting updates! This is such an awesome build! You just helped me pick the color for my 67 Coupe! I always liked this color but it looks dull on the newer Corvettes. The chrome really makes it pop!
