it would be the top & bottom spacing of the fan in the shroud that would be the concern as far as hood height relative to the engine position.

Problem solved: The front coil springs were incorrect. They were 14 1/2" in height and the coil diameter was approximately .589. Replaced them with the correct coils: 13 1/2" and .55. Followed the instructions for installation in the assembly manual and used both a jack and a steel rod for safety purposes. When removing and installing the A Arm bolts, and achieving correct alignment when reinstalling the A Arms , the flexibility of alternating support from jack to supporting rod was very helpful and secure. After the coils were installed, I shimmed the radiator support and other body mounts to attain hood closure and a level body. Many thanks to all who responded with helpful guidance.

well, congrats... but i still don't understand what the front coil springs have to do with how the body sits on the frame or engine height..

Once the correct springs were installed the nose lowered considerably thus providing a more level body contour on the frame for shimming. I shimmed the radiator support mounting a good 1", which together with additional shimming of other body mounts, raised and leveled the body properly on the frame. To do so, I had to remove the bumpers and disconnect other parts from the body to the frame so that the frame would not raise...just the body.
