Default A/C idle solenoid

I haven't found a happy medium for an idle speed setting that both keeps it running when the A/C is on and having too fast of an idle without it resulting in dieseling when I shut it off.

I remember long ago some posted about using a solenoid but others have said they weren't strong enough. I'm running a BG750 and need to keep my idle above 850 but not over 1000. Any suggestions?

This is what I use with my factory 2818-1 Holley (4160, I think).

It works but you have to use your foot to initially raise the idle for the plunger to set. I had to experiment with the idle I needed, roughly 900 r's when the air conditioning compressor is engaged to give my setup a stable idle.

Here's a pic of what I used:

Did it come with that bracket or was that something you had to fashion for yourself?

Bracket was purchased a while ago along with that Holley solenoid. Let me see if I can find it on Summit. Yup, here are the parts you need:

I had a few over the years. I got them at U-Pull-A-Part for couple of bucks, one off a Chrysler, one off a Buick. At U-Pull-A-Part, they all come with brackets.

I got mine from Team C in Bellflower Ca. I think the solenoid and bracket were under $100.00. My L79 idles at 700rpm. I adjusted the solenoid to raise the rpm's by 200 when the ac is engaged. I ran a power switch under the dash but in hindsight I should have just spliced it into the compressor power wire.

Some years ago I was able to buy and Idle stop solenoid at Auto Zone to fix that problem on my wife 79 Z28,but it seems like they no longer carry them. But I found this on ebay:

It should work.

That's what I am using. And I get similar idle with an 097 cam.

In reference to post #7 they need a Holley bracket.

A follow to an old thread I started - I did purchase the Holley bracket and a GM solenoid but never got around to installing until now. While the mounting holes for the bracket do exist on the base of my BG Demon carb, the throttle arm interferes with the Holley bracket in a major way. I'll either have to fab my own bracket or cut this one apart and weld it up in some way that provides clearance. This is mostly an FYI for anyone with a Demon carb wanting to add a idle speed solenoid.
