Yup, 8" is way too wide for front and will stick out the sides of the fenders in back.
I got away with 15x7 up front and 15x 8" in back, but I had to really stiffen up the rear to keep the fenders off the tire sidewalls, and my '61 car has wider fenders than a '60.
The 14" wheels won't help much.
I would stick to 15x 7 as largest, and make sure the back space is correct, as wrong backspace will put you in the same boat.
If i didn't have 427 cubes, with 400 ft-lb of rear wheel Tq at 1500 RPM, in the car, I would have gone with 7" wide wheels on the rear

I also have a narrowed 12 bolt rear end, which IIRC, is slightly narrower than stock at the wheel mounting flanges. Not much narrower, maybe 3/8" per side.

If you already have the wheels and tires, why didn't you just put them on and see what the problems were going to be, and if they would fit or not?
