Look up forum member GTR1999-AKA Gary Ramdei. He is VERY good at rebuilding steering boxes and is reasonably priced as well.

Why not do it yourself? Kits are cheap and they're very simple to rebuild and set up.

All the above are excellent suggestions. If it were my car i would proceed in this order:

1. Gary Ramadei at (203) 776-2813
2. Bair's in Pennsylvania
3. Do it myself

I like to wrench on my own cars, but Gary and Bair's are both exceptional in what they do.

I did my own, but next time for $150 Bairs is getting my business. Just cleaning it would be worth $100 to me.

+1 for Gary. Anybody offering a complete rebuild service for 150.00 isnt doing a complete rebuild! My guess is they are just cleaning the internals and re-greasing them.

You've obviously never dealt with Bair's.

Do it yourself it isn't that difficult and there are some good written instructions I have seen on the internet that you can use as a guide. It isn't that hard to do.

Gary's THEE man! Thorough, very detailed oriented AND he knows not only steering boxes, but also differentials and trailing arms to include proper setup of bearings.

You are right, i have not. Did they provide you with pictures of the complete rebuild of your box? If not, how do you know they did a complete rebuild?

I rebuild my own BUT if you go to their web site, they show you exactly what they do. Bair's Corvette is very well known in the NCRS world and probably rebuild more steering boxes, trailing arms and rear ends than all others combined. They only do work one way - to perfection.

Another vote for Bairs. Mine was rebuilt years ago by them and I think it may have only been $125 back then. They reported rust on one of the main gears and replaced it with a better used one during the rebuid for no additional cost that I remember. If I am suffering a case of CRS at least the cost of the additional parts was trivial or it would have stuck in my memory.

Yogi & Brian have an open door policy regarding the way they do things in house............ If you've a 1st time walk in customer, you will be invited to see the entire operation without even asking.........Ya can't get any more open than that..........

Well that is good to hear and if they stand behind their work, then that is a great price.
I shouldnt have lumped them in with the other exchange/rebuilders

Not to take anything away from other reputable rebuilders / vendors, it's just that after dealing with Yogi & Brian for over 35 yrs, I fill I'm in a position to comment..........Don't like getting mis-information & certainly won't be one to give it out..........Merry Christmas to all & to all a good night...........

We build allot of steering box's, trailing arms and a ton of differential, all years. I have to side with Bair's on that, just as we can't provide every customer with a set of pictures of their item being rebuilt. I can tell you this, any part that comes into our building to get rebuilt, get cleaned in an hot water tank, all the internals are also cleaned in the same tank, than all the metal parts that are re-usable gets shot peened (minus spindles and a couple of little parts). The parts get magna-fluxed to find any hidden issues we can't see. We mic all of the bearing journals to make sure they are in the correct tolerance, and then they are professional set up with the correct tools and jigs. If I were going to do pictures of this process I would have to add like $200 not only to pay the photographer but the amount of time it would slow everything down. I can guarantee you that your part would be rebuilt because our reputation means more to me than your money. Bair's is the same way, I have known them for a long time and will say that if we didn't built them and I was going to have mine built that is who I would be calling.
