Default C2 Crossmember Replacement

Can a transmission crossmember on a C2 with side exhaust be properly
Replaced without pulling the body?
I didn't think so but I'm told different?

Default Yes!

They invented cheap grinders that will take cutting discs, grinding discs, that work perfect.

Default Crossmember

Isn't the transmission crossmember welded to the top of the frame
Or does it weld to the sides?

Welded on top. Take the body off to properly remove and replace. No getting around it.

Default It's not a bad idea to leave a little on the top!!!!!

I thought that was funny!!!!!!!!

Come on people, it's just metal!!!!!!!!!!! The Auto crossmembers just bolt in and my Bowtie overdrive unit. I was so happy the day I cut that piece of crap out of the car. The ease of working on it now!

But if you are all NCRS thinking, then enjoy the extra in my opinion unnecessary work!

I guess the real question is, "What are you trying to accomplish?"

is yours in need of re-pair ?
are you trying to make it removable ?
Are you installing a different trans ?

Default Crossmember

The crossmember is good but had large angle iron welded to it
With brackets?possibly some type of traction/ladder bar set up?
I don't know, possibly grind welds off of angle iron slowly and
Carefully,frame is excellent

The bolt-in trans crossmember on automatics didn't start until 1968.

On C2 race cars and actually back engineer/install a C3 unit!!!!!!!! I think it is NCRS Regulation #23421-A revision 2 of what not to do!

Default Let's see where do I start!

I have been a Corvette enthusiast since way way long before the foundation of the NCRS!!!!!!! Yes it has a place, if that is your thing! I personally equate it to being similar to those religious groups that want to come to your door and tell you how you can change your life with their guidance. I have been at plenty of events where I have seen them closing in on my cars and kindly asked them to bypass my car and to hold their opinions! I don't have anything stock anywhere in the car! Therefore what they preach is foreign to my way of thinking related to Corvettes! And darn if they don't also carry Bibles around!!!!!! Weird concept to me!
