I don't have a dial back timing light. I think I will get a total advance timing done when I bring it to the shop for the oil leak and some other issues I need fixed.

You can set total by making a mark on the damper. Measure it's circumference, divide the result by 10, and put a mark that distance from 0º. That will be 36º. To set total at something other than 36º align that mark with +2, -2, etc.. Be sure that it's through advancing before setting total. Depending on the particular distributor, that may not be until 4-5K.

Now, this sounds like something I can do. Thanks, but I need a little more detail though. "Make a mark on the damper" where and when and what would be the other mark? 0?

Yes. With the 0 mark at the top, the 36º mark would be towards the drivers side. Once you're calculated the correct distance, mark a piece of masking tape with 2 marks that distance apart. Put the tape on the damper with one mark aligned with zero. Use a light colored paint or marker (I usually use touch-up paint) and put a mark on the damper at 36º, remove tape and you're done.
