Default Clutch

I plan on installing a new clutch on my '66 Roadster. It's an unusual basic 327/300hp 3 speed transmission. How can I find out what size clutch plate it is and how many splines does it have? Thank you in advance for your response.

If it is the original transmission it has 10 splines. It will have a 10 1/2" clutch if nothing has been modified over the years. Remember that some places refer to the clutch diameter as 10 3/8" or 10.3". All refer to the same size clutch.

Have your flywheel resurfaced, then have a machine shop balance the clutch and flywheel together. Note the common match point for the two when bolting back together. Luk clutches are the choice of many CF members. Dennis

i recommend against having the flywheel/pressure plate balanced as an assembly; if you ever have to replace one or the other you're screwed unless you balance them both again.

100%

That is why I buy SPEC clutch and flywheel assembly. It is already balanced and ready to go. Then comes checking the bore concentricity and parallelism.

Make sure your pilot bushing is bronze and NON metallic...and make sure that is slips on the input shaft rather easily.

The flywheel should remain neutral-balanced, so any corrections are made only to the clutch; next time you need a clutch, that's all you have to deal with. Leave the flywheel alone.

EXACTLY!
They should be INDEPENDANTLY neutral balanced (I wasn't going to say anything-------------glad you did).
