For my 1965 327 engine (non FI)...it's an L76...which air filter do most people replace with...foam or paper? I'm more likely to use paper and get a new one when dirty rather than hose the foam one down and reuse...also, I have heard some do not sit well in the housing where they housing won't close all the way...any recommendations?

I prefer paper filters, they are usually inexpensive, readily available and do a good job.
Foam tend to deteriorate over time.
I like the K&N filters. More air flow, easy to clean and, with a million mile warranty, should be the last filter you'll ever need to buy. If you can't find one locally Corvette Central has 'em.

Here is another vote for K and N filter. I have one on my 68 small block and will add one on my 66 upon tune up. I have one on my daily driver and after 10 years it needed replacement. I sent a picture to K and N and they sent me a replacement free of charge. It does not get better than that. Jerry
K & N's are great for street and highway driving, and paved-course motorsports. I've used 'em for 30 years. They replaced one element for me several years ago, no receipt or other hassles.
Only negative experiences I've heard of have been with trucks and heavy equipment used in extremely dusty conditions like open mines and construction sites. K & N's increased airflow seems to come from larger micro-orifices that can allow bigger abrasive particles pass through than conventional dry element filters.
OTOH, paper and foam elements require more frequent replacement because of clogging under those conditions, perhaps more frequent cleaning and re-oiling of K & N's than the standard recommendations might improve their performance in severe dusty service.
Wix 542070. NAPA also carries the same filter under the 2070 part number.
Fits perfect in both the 300 HP dual snorkel air cleaner housing as well as the L76 chrome housing.
Nobody carries them around here. I get mine from Paragon.
