I finally got around to getting headlight relays installed on my '66. My lights have never really been very powerful and the switch always got hot when they were on. I bought the MAD kit and now after the first night time drive, I am pleased to report that they work as advertised. Much brighter and the switch stays at ambient temperature. I made no voltage measurement before and after so I just have this qualitative report. But having owned this car for about 30 years, I have a good idea of what the brightness situation was before the install.
The installation is like previously described. Both relays on the LH radiator support side under the horn relay. Some years ago, I replaced the original horn relay, so I took the power off the back of the alternator since I was unsure where the positive post was on the replacement relay.
One other observation. I think my dash light are now brighter. Not sure why but that seems to be the case.
This is a very good upgrade and I wish I had done it sooner.
Sounds like a nice up grade but I have to wonder if the dash lights may not last as long with the voltage increase. If it were me I think I'd turn them down a bit at the headlight switch just to be on the safe side since they're such a PITA to R & R.
